A Headstone For Harry

A young boy walked into the Somerset pool room

All us ole boys were just standing around

The kid said 'scuse me, do you know my daddy?

He's dead and he's lying out there in the ground

Known him for years was a good friend of ours

The boy said well I want to get him a headstone

I already went out and picked him some flowers

We looked at each other - not having no money

We ventured to ask, well, how much would it cost

Two hundred dollars he said with his chest out

And twenty more dollars to have it embossed

He prayed every day long as I can recall

But now I'm afraid when the Lord comes to get him

A couple weeks later we sat in the pool room

And someone suggested since two weeks had passed

Go out to the graveyard and look at the headstone

And see what the young man had done with our cash

A real pretty headstone that stated the fact

All chiseled in stone there was written this message
