C F C I was working in Miami for a day or twoF C G7 I decided I'd look up a girl that I once knewC F C I bought some flowers and went to see a girl I used to knowF C G7 C The lady at her door said she had married long agoF C Times will change and towns will change but there I was aloneF C G7 When suddenly I wondered would Susie be at homeC F C So with the flowers in my hand I walked toward her gateF C G7 C Someone touched me on the arm and said you'll have to waitF C Then I noticed there were people standing in a lineF C G7 Some of them were holding pretty flowers just like mineC F C They explained that Susie had been in an awful crashF C G7 C Doctors said that she had just a little while to lastF C When I walked into her room I felt the sense of shameF C G7 But I heard Susie whisper I'm awfully glad you cameC F C She had been the girl that I had always gone to seeF C G7 C When someone that I cared for had been untrue to meF C I handed her the flowers and she gently kissed my handF C G7 She said don't be embarrassed for you know I understandC F C I said goodbye and as I bent to kiss her fevered browF C G7 C I heard her whisper thank you for the second handed flowers
